Fort Bend County Toll violations
I am so furious!
On Aug. 8 we traded in a car to a local Dealership here in Houston. Transaction took place around 1:00 in the afternoon. I just got a Toll Violation Invoice from Fort Bend County saying toll violations occurred at 7:00pm that night, again on Aug. 9th at 4:00pm and again at 5:00pm! $1 each time plus a $15 administration fee. Obviously someone at the dealership decided to drive it home that night (it was a Mercedes SL65!) and have some fun with it! We did submit a Texas Motor Vehicle Transf. Notification to the state of Texas...but it is only signed by my husband...does not have the Dealerships signature on it. Just spoke some woman at the Toll Violation Office and she said that this may be enough to prove we didn't own it, but she is not sure. I will have to submit it them first. Since the trade was to a Dealership, we don't have a bill of sale! I have a call in to the salesman we worked with, to see who the hell is driving that car

That sucks. But if you can afford an SL65 (new MSRP = $190,000), you can afford $18 in case this doesn't go your way.

It's not the $18 bucks! Its the principle! Why should I have to pay for someone elses disregard for tolls?

Have a word with the dealer rather than brag about your ex nice car.

Because the EZ tag belongs to you and the account is in your name. You should have removed the tag when you gave up possession.

You mean to say you drove the car off the lot without something in print saying when you got said car?
I've had a similar thing happen, but with a car I sold and the dude didn't get it put it into his name before blowing through half of the EZ Tag lanes on the Sam - sans EZ Tag of course. I got the bill in the mail, but I talked to the toll authority people and I didn't end up paying a dime.

I've turned the car over to them...There is no said bill of sale when you turn it over to a dealership. I have paperwork saying I traded it for something else. And like I said, we filled out a Notification of Transfer for the state...(us thinking in case if was involved in an accident).

OK, I stand corrected. The toll road authority should waive the fees but if not you might have to pursue the dealership for reimbursement.
