Default How is the area around Spencer Square Shopping Center (i.e. 1 mile radius) in Pasadena, crime-wise?

I'm trying to avoid the parts of town where I have to carry mugger money or get a carry permit.

Where is Spencer Square - what streets is it bounded by? Spencer is not as bad as old Pasadena - but people who live along Fairmont rarely go beyond Fairmont. If Spencer Square is more toward Deer Park or La Porte areas - crime is relatively low.

I think Spencer Square is over by the hospital w/ the Kroger, etc...if I am not mistaken. An iffy area but not too bad, go to Jason's deli and the Hancock fabrics there all the time with no problems. A little too close to South Houston IMO. Stay away from any apartments in that area though.

It's on Spencer Highway between S Burke Dr and Strawberry Rd and a few hundred yards away from Strawberry Park.

If you had to hazard a guess, how much further south (inside Pasadena) would be far enough away from Houston? A street name boundary would be useful.

From Burke toward Hwy 146 in La Porte but not in between Spencer and Hwy 225. I would stay between Spencer to and Genoa Red Bluff side of Pasadena. Once you get to Deer Park or La Porte - it is okay to cross Spencer.

Thanks. The other poster mentioned proximity to South Houston as a negative. I had thought South Houston was merely a generic reference to the southern part of Houston until I looked at a map and discovered it's actually a place name. Now I understand why Burke is a key boundary street.

Do you know if the area around San Jacinto Community College is safe? I believe it falls within the area you outlined as safe, but my experience of colleges is that many of the surrounding areas are a little iffy, crime-wise.

Just like Texas said...head eastward towards Deer Park or somewhere along Fairmont.
