Weyland-Engineer is on a distinguished road
Unhappy Finishing Student from Britain

Hi Americans

I'm a British student and i have a few questions to ask you guys, in regards to, work in engineering. I'm due to graduate from University come may 2009 with a BEng Mechanical Engineering degree if all goes well. I have experience using design software packages like AutoCAD & SolidWorks. I was wondering how I would go about getting a job in mechanical engineering in America, as I have grown tried of the U.K. As I wish to become an American as I see my future here in the UK a doom, ok I won’t bore you with my problems.

I'm a hard worker and positive thinker; I need some information regarding the job market for mechanical engineers here in America, as i wish to start a new life in America come graduation.

Thanks in advance.

Part of it depends on your University, but most of the major Universities here have large career placement centers that do a very good job of helping you find a company recruiting for your degree. If you look for multi-national companies and ask them about positions in the US I'm sure you'll find something. Definitely take maximum advantage of any career placement services your University has, including help with your resume, cover letter, and interviewing skills.

Next I would suggest checking some of the big job websites, like Monster.com. Just search for entry level Mechanical engineering jobs, in whatever city you may be interested in working.
