Houston PD- any police officers in here? Views on Houston PD?
Hi,
I will be moving to Houston in a month or two and will be applying to enter the Houston Police department as a cadet (have no prior LE experience).
First anybody here in the Houston PD or know anybody in the department? What's your views on the Houston PD (Good, bad)?
Also, I have a college degree and some graduate work (but no graduate degree). Is that a big advantage over somebody who has over 60 credits (which I think is the requirement) of college but no college degree in terms of the hiring process?
ps- I already know about the relatively low pay of the Houston PD but that is not that important to me.

I've seen the parking lot of Pappa's BBQ on South Main from time to time wondering if they opened a HPD substation in there.

They get free breakfast at Egg & I on Memorial. I wonder why at least 3 cars are there every morning.
Good guys though. We know them, and the local patrol constables, by name.

Most of the HPD guys I've met are good guys. They do have some thugs with badges in their ranks though, but that can be found on any police force.

I admire anyone who aspires to be a police officer because you know what - they do a job that the vast majority of people would not be able to do. Yeah they often just make traffic stops but they often go into harrowing situations to protect the citizens of this city. Good luck to you.

The will not come out a fender binder unless someone is badly hurt or car in not driveable. And on calls out for distrub. they take their time so they are probably out getting something free to eat or drink or just taking a nap in their car.
