There are people evacuating Sugar Land this morning and that doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I think they should stay off the highways because there are so many other people closer to the coast in a Mandatory Evacuation zone.

Oh yes, Carla for sure, I guess I just meant since Alicia.

This map should give folks a clear idea of what exactly will be the Windgust on your area
NWS Graphical Forecast for Houston/Galveston, TX
As per that NHC map, InnerBeltwayLoop is expecting windgust between 50 and 60 mph between Sat 1 am and Sat 4 pm.
I am expecting that 60 mph wind is OK but have no idea what damage it would to the electricity.
This is another one from City of Houston :
http://houstonhidefromthewind.org/
According to this, InnerLoop will have MAX 86 mph and that will " According to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale for wind speeds of 74-95 mph you can expect: No real damage to building structures. Damage primarily to unanchored mobile homes, shrubbery, and trees. Also, some coastal flooding and minor pier damage. "

I am in SE by Fuqua and 45, pretty close to the coast. Galveston has mandatory evacuation as of now. I imagine the freeways are crowded right about now.

I'm watching Channel 11, doesn't look bad traffic wise, except obviously 45 S is getting hairy in the usual places. I would imagine they can't do contraflow while there are people still going to work, etc. as it looks like there is still traffic going into the city.
