Folks,
If you do not live in a storm surge zone, you should shelter in place (unless you are in a trailer). Do not leave! Let the folks in the surge zones get out. There will be plenty of time to leave after the storm has passed if you are discomforted by the lack of AC or other amenities. Let's save lives first and worry about comfort later.

abc13.com: Houston News, Weather, Traffic, and Sports has a great site, I think, with the spagetti models, interactive maps and Tim's blog. He breaks down by city what expected winds and rain will be. Katy is said to have 75-100mph winds and 5-10" of rain. Sugarland could be 100mph and the same rain.

Updated forecasts keep bringing it closer to Houston and earlier one forecaster said the track as of last nite was almost identical to Rita. But the high pressure dome seems to be protecting LA from the storm moving further east.

Question about the "zip codes" which are being evacuated in Harris County/Houston. Are these zips poor, middle class or affluent neighborhoods?

Meh. It's just 100 mph sustained winds. Probably a middle Cat-1 when it gets into Houston proper. I'm not even convinced that the power's gonna go out for long, if at all.

Quit freaking, people. I just got a call saying there's a big run on the gas stations and such. I guess this is what happens when we don't have a hurricane actually hit in ~20 years.
