RE the dog other what a crime leaving any animal in such weather. Can't imagine what he/she went through if he/she did not drown painfully. I would not be telling people I left an animal out in the elements and expect pity. Yes important to evacuate people but surely someone could have picked up the dog if they had known.
Does anyone know how the area just NW of 610 between 290 and 45 did? I have my stuff at a moving company storage location and concerned I have nothing left if it flooded or wind damage.
Sorry to worry about stuff but it is important to me.

Me too. Am wondering if power is back on in Dickinson? Family waited it out in Woodlands but if there is power in Dickinson where they live maybe should they should look to get back to Dickinson verses staying in Woodlands?

You really should be careful about judging other people's situations that you know nothing about. The dog is not the only thing traumatized here.

I am not asking for pity--just information. It was more important at the time for me to force my elderly parent to evacuate and he could not bring the dog. I'm very sorry I asked for information on this forum. I did not expect to get attacked.

At the very least, the dog could have been put indoors - even if it's not house trained. To leave it outside in a freaking hurricane is downright inhumane.

Trapped in a small house with low ceilings while it floods vs in a fenced yard with things he can climb on to get out of the water and shelter in a shed whose door was left open??? People do the best they can in the situation. Have you been flooded before? Please stop judging and try to contribute helpful comments if possible. Thanks.

Sorry. I can't NOT judge when it comes to leaving a dog to fend for itself in 100 mph winds and rain.
And even though I don't live in Houston now, I'm from Houston. Spent 39 years of my life there. I do know a thing or two about hurricanes and evacuation.

Yes, I have been flooded, house ruined, possessions lost. Had to wade out of my house with water up to my chin.
My priority was
- Get personal paperwork and family photos.
Thats it. that is really all that is important when you come down to it. The reason i was asking about my storage facility in Houston is I have family photos stored there. The furniture can be soaked, the other stuff who cares, the photos are important to me.
But I am not judging you, nor do I know what you have gone through and it is time to stop slamming you, I just hope your dog is alive and well.

Info on Woodlands and Dickinson.
I just talked with Mom in Woodlands. The just got cell signal back but they have no power. They and property there are fine.
Dickinson has no utilities they are telling residents who evacuated to not come back yet.
As to folks judging anyone who is in a fast decision situation. That is just wrong. Arm chair quarterbacking someone else's priority's from long distance decision making. Please don't do that. Until you are in those shoes at that time, you have no right to say a thing.
Personally, I am a pet lover and have had to evacuate priorly with pets. We could manage the dog but not the cats. It was a hard decision but that is what we had to do and it turned out to be the best situation for the cat in the end and all was fine.
Look at what happens with a storm or fire with horses, it is proven best to let them loose. Animals have survival instincts better than humans. Sometimes you have to trust those when you are faced with the decision.
Look at the cities response to shelters and pets. Most of the time it is you are welcome but your pets are not. So what is a person to do in that situation but to let the pet loose and trust their instincts and hope for the best. People don't always have a choice. Be reasonable and fair here folks, please.
