At UH wondering if my lights came back home in Montrose....neighbors across the streets have lights. I think it's been 3 and a half days now.

We went driving around a bit yesterday evening and it looked like much of Midtown and Montrose still didn't have power. But that was yesterday...

I rode out the storm in Winnie (had to work--so please DON'T flame me...)
IN GENERAL: Well built, brick homes survived with superficial damage, wood frame houses a little less so. Mobil homes & RV's damaged and flipped over. Many buisnesses on SH124 damaged badly, some flat-out destroyed. TONS of trees down, most signs gone. No surge flooding, as Winnie is high elevation. Power will take weeks to restore. DM me, if I can provide more specific info, no guarantee, but I will try.
Scary storm when you are alone at 1 AM, in dark, and debris hitting your home....But I made it, Thank God.

We live 1000 miles from you and we had tropical storm winds from Ike yesterday ! Louisville and southern Indiana have been hit really hard! Over 300 road closings in the Louisville area. Schools in some areas here are closed. Southern Indiana looks really bad. Many places will be without power for a while. We watched shingles flying from our neighbors' homes yesterday. We lived in nederland for 8 years and yesterday reminded me of a couple of the hurricanes that we dealt with while there !!
Anyway, if anyone knows anything at all about Winnie, we would really appreciate it!!! Thanks and hugs to all of you who are dealing with the aftermath of Ike.

I created a new thread on this but realize now that I should've posted here re (ALL IKE POSTS HERE PLEASE....)
This Seattle station captured images of Ike I haven't previously seen with people and places. Quite touching and humanizing.

OMG that's funny!!! I figured that you possibly would get stopped. At least they didn't tell you to get your hands in the air or to get down on the ground.
So are they really giving out the $2,000 fines for this or do they just tell you to go home?

Just a quick update. My family members have made it back to Dickinson and are staying there even though there is no power as of yet. No power where they evacuated too, so not much difference except they can start tree and debris clean up during the day. No damage to their houses but some roof damage which equals interior water damage to the small apartment building they own, it can be fixed rather easy so all in all, not bad.
They were lucky and just working through the day today on helping the tenants relocate and clean up. They are able to get to water, food and ice so Mom said for now, it is just like camping. They have a really good attitude about it all which is helping a lot I am sure.
Thanks to all you great Texans who have helped me out by keeping me informed and answering questions for me, I appreciate y'all!
