Ugh. Actually thought about going there after reading some of the comments. I may as well stay "local" and spend those hrs closer to home.

I used the office in Webster / Clear Lake on Hwy 3. Got there when they opened and was out in 1 hour.

I just did this on Wednesday of this week. I went to the Conroe office to change over my license. Got there around 12:45 and walked out, new TX license in hand, before 1:30. A couple of weeks ago, I took my brother-in-law to change over his license....went to the DPS off Beltway 8 and Aldine-Westfield (don't recall the name of the area...is that Greenspoint?). I dropped him off around 2 pm and he wasn't done 'til 3:45.

Was at the DPS office in Rosenberg on Monday around lunchtime and was in and out in less than an hour.

If they take your license....what would a travel nurse do? If I reside in FL but am traveling to TX to do a temporary assignment (13 weeks)....I don't want them confiscating my FL license. Anyone know?

The law in Texas was a new resident had 30 days to change over their license. If I read it right, as of 1 September, the law changed to allow new residents 90 days to change over their license. That's close enough that I wouldn't worry about it. Unless your going to establish residency in some other manner like buy'ing a house or enrolling kids in school, or ????

The cops don't have to know. Just tell them whatever.

I know that both times I was in the licensing office there were people arguing that they needed to keep their out-of-state license and both times the DPS staff said, "Sorry," and confiscated it.

Since I will be there temporarily, I think I will just keep my FL license. If I get stopped I will tell the officer that I am only here on an assignment. As far as being asked about where I live, I will tell them the truth.....I am living in short term corporate housing.

I think the Humble office has been better than others, but its still going to be 90 minutes getting acquainted with your fellow Houstonites.

I dont get why I need to wait 6-8 weeks to get a picture ID. AT least in other states I've lived in you do your purgatory time at the DMV but at least you have a picture ID at the end of the day.
