I took my first trip outside Houston (Bellaire and West U. don't count ) for the first time since the storm today.

I didn't veer off Highway 6 or 35 in Alvin (where I lived for 3 1/2 years) or Manvel, but everything I saw seemed to have power, and looked like it was in pretty good shape, all things considered. Looks like part of a ground-level wall near the main entrance the First National Bank building - the closest thing to a skyscraper Alvin's got - either collapsed or otherwise was damaged. Other than that, damage looked like mostly signs and a few roofs, and all the lights on 6 in Alvin were working. Just not the FM 517 and 528 lights on Highway 35 - they were flashing.

Friendswood looked like it held up well, and from what I saw, had power. I didn't go into Pearland, but I'm told there's a lot of it without power still.

Monday or Tuesday I will be going home - well, I live in Houston, but Texas City will always be home - for the first time since Ike. From what I'm told, things are making their way towards normalcy there too, with more people getting power and all.

Also, looks like everything between Main and Stella Link closer to where I live has power, but only south of 610. North of 610 is still dark, and I figure those neighborhoods off Buffalo Speedway and Kirby may still be dark as they were last time I went through there.

I'm also in Willis, and got my power back the Thursday after Ike passed through, around 11 a.m. I lost power at 12:40 a.m. the Saturday Ike hit.

I also got a cracked tree removed on Wednesday. The downed one in the backyard was taken care of by a neighbor with a chainsaw. I think I need to buy one of those. I am thankful not to have damage to my house, and insurance reimbursed me $500 for my lost food in the refrigerator/freezer.

I was wondering about that...people who did not have any damage to the house, but you were still able to get the food reimbursed. So I guess you still file a claim??

Hi everyone - glad to see everybody's okay and made it through the Ike bitchslap!

We lost power at 7 PM that Friday night Ike hit, and got it back last Monday - a week ago today (we're in Deer Park). You never really realize how much you appreciate electricity until you don't have it for 10 days.

Almost everyone we know has theirs back, except for two people: my boss, who lives off 43rd in the Heights area, and my mother-in-law, who is in LaPorte.

Yes! By all means file a claim! I have also been re-eimbursed by Ins. for the meats in my 2 freezers. I took pics but they could have cared less. And for whatever reason, it is not counted in your deductible. I gave them a $ amt. and it was deposited straight into my bank acct. Our claim for the rest of the stuff will probably not be paid by our Ins. since we won't meet the deductible.

I never lost water. The pressure did get low.

Anyone still without power? Everything around me seems to have it now.

Yes, file a claim! I filed the Sunday after our power was restored, and the check was cut that day. I had it in my hand the following Thursday. I had a $100 deductible for my refrigerator contents, and it was estimated that I lost $700. My maximum reimbursement amount is $500, and I got it all.

I live in the Reliant Area near the intersection of 288 and 610. I never lost power! It was unbelievable.
