We should be getting a generator today!
The power came back on at 4:15 PM and the generator arrived at 4:20

I'm wondering if Thornwood in the west Memorial area has power back yet? 77079. The area appeared to be pretty hard hit when we stopped by to check on the house Sunday, but we haven't been back to check it out since. No sign of EasilyAmused makes me think Memorial is still out.

I live near the intersection of FM 1093 (Westheimer) and FM 1464 and I lost power just before midnight last Friday night. It was not restored until 9:00 PM on Monday. Although I lost all the food in my fridge and upright freezer, the worst thing was not having lights at night to read by and having to lie in the dark until I fell asleep. I now know I must buy a battery-powered fan and a really bright lantern to keep for the next time (there's always going to be a next time). With a blowing fan and light I can survive. When power was restored my first order of business was to pull all the "dead" food out of the freezer before all the nasty refroze and then wipe everything down with bleach. Although I have some water damage in my kitchen it was from "wind-driven" rain that came in through the roof ridge vents and not a roof leak. My greatest blessing is discovering that I have a disaster remediation specialist living two doors down from me. He's going to fix my damaged ceiling. I am just grateful to have escaped the really horrific damage so many have suffered.

I suspect that's hundreds of dollars worth of food. You may want to consider getting a low end generator for the next time around. They're available for about a grand. If you switch to compact fluorescents for a short while, you could probably also run the lights off the generator.

We lost power around midnight right before Hurricane Ike arrived and we just got it back around 6 pm tonight. So a few hours short of 7 days without it. I'm VERY happy to have power restored.

Nope, but we will have it for next time. We had been considering one for a while anyway.
