Default Hispanic area that is actually SAFE?

Now don't tell me it doesn't exist because here in California I live in Glendale which is majority hispanic and was listed as one of the safest cities in the country! I love it here but I want a house and obviously that is not really possible in SoCal.

Now I don't expect Houston to be like California - I grew up in Houston and know that it isn't - but there has to be someplace in Houston where a middle/working class hispanic family can live safely among other middle/working class hispanic families! So far the only hispanic areas I know of are Aldine which everyone says is terrible, and areas like Pasadena on the south which I have also heard were sketchy. Also after what happened with Ike I'm not sure I want to live on the southside!

On a recent visit home (NW/cypress area) I have noticed that the Bear Creek area is becoming more hispanic.. but I don't know very much about that area other than I used to go to the library there when I was a kid..

Can anyone help ?

There are plenty of safe hispanic areas - in the more middle class areas. In Pasadena - it is sketchy in the older sections and those nearest Hwy 225. However in the sections along Fairmont Parkway (between Beltway 8 and highway 146) it is fine, as is Deer Park and newer areas of La Porte. If you have kids, I would say between Space Center Blvd. & 146 (Deer Park Schools). The thing about Hispanics is that they are mixed into almost every community so unless you are looking for predominantly Hispanic you would fit into every nice community there is and find other Hispanics there as well. Oh and I live on the southside and have had less Ike problems than my friends in the 290/Beltway 8 area and even the Woodlands (trees took out the power for them, not water issues). With a storm, it is a luck of the draw as to how much damage you will get regardless of where you live (unless you are pretty much on the beach or bay) - depends on where it comes in. Come explore different communities and find one that fits.

Where will your employer be - that might help determine what areas posters recommend to you. If you have lived here before, you know how spread out it is so it is best to live with the shortest commute.

Hmm street names mean almost nothing to me anymore so if you know the zip codes that would help alot! It doesn't have to be majority hispanic although I would prefer it.. at least 30% .. at least

Thanks for the advice!

77505 Pasadena (and also some Pasadena addresses with Deer Park Schools), 77536 for Deer Park - some nice new areas off of Canada Street. Nice, newer areas with middle to upper class Hispanics - all safe areas to live in. 5-10 minutes away from Clear Lake area. The area is probably about the percentage you are looking for if not a little more.

But like I said, you can find Hispanics in almost every middle to upper scale burb in the greater Houston area but not sure to what percentage.

Mission Bend is pretty safe, however it by and large feeds into Alief. As a former Alief teacher, I would highly recommend you do not send your kids to the Alief schools. Some of Mission Bend is in Fort Bend ISD, however the houses flood a lot there (and the schools are mediocore). It's lack of proximity to the city is also making that area a hard sell. One area I might recommend is Huntington Village near Bellfort and Dairy Ashford. The south part of Huntington Village feeds into Meadows Elementary, Sugar Land Middle and Kempner High School. All are great schools. Again, stay away from the Alief side. I would also look at Meadows Place, Texas. It is south of Bellfort and is becoming pretty Hispanic. They are Meadows Elementary/Dulles Middle and High.

I'm not hispanic, but my area (77023) is pretty heavily Hispanic. Middle class neighborhoods like Eastwood and Idylwood offer safety, nice homes, and ethnic diversity.

You can tell somewhat from the demographics of the students at high schools, which you can check on the Great Schools website. Where I live (77077) the high school is Westside, which is in HISD. Great Schools says it is 35% white, 29% African American, and 27% Hispanic. That's not a bad blend if you're looking for diversity. Another area to look at would be near Mayde Creek High School in Katy (77084). That's listed as 42% white, 38% Hispanic, and 14% African American. I figure the high schools give you a good idea of the people living in the area.

If you are looking inside the loop (quite different than suburbia) Lindale Park (77009) would be worth checking out. Not crime free by any means - but we enjoyed our time there.

Houston is almost 50% hispanic so any area you move in you are bound to find other hispanics - just some areas are more predominant than others - depends on what you are looking for. Eastwood is up and and coming as well.
