Default Houston For Singles In Late 20s or Early 30s

I was just reading the posting by jd2008 at http://www.city-data.com/forum/houst...one-month.html

3.) Family orientated. This is really more of a negative for me and probably won't apply to all. For kids right out of college you are in the right party spot but for people in my age group (late 20's, early 30's) it seems that Houston assumes you are out in the burbs with the white picket fence and the 2.5 kids. The number of single women in my age group, for example, seem slim. Again, this is just my general perception at this point and perhaps may change as I learn more about Houston but that is my feeling at this time.
Now mind you, jd2008 has only been in Houston for a month, so he probably did not get a chance to see it all.

However this aspect matters a LOT for me. I am single in my late 20s and am considering relocating to Houston. It would be a deal breaker for me if whatever he says is True.

As for me, I am the nightlife enthusiast and tend to meet girls at the bars and clubs. I would be ashamed if I could'nt continue this lifestyle in Houston if it is the case that not many people go out and such.

Can somebody please disprove jd2008 and tell me that Houston is a rockin city for singles.

Let me expand on my previous post.

From your username I am assuming that your are from Boston. I have spent a lot of time there and I can tell your that the singles scene in Houston is different (to say the least). There are plenty of places to go out here but generally it seems younger. Many people I have met are just out of college and even in that age group many are married or engaged. Even though Houston is a big city, it is still in Texas and people get married much younger here as compared to the Northeast or the West Coast. Actually, many of the women I have met my age (late 20's, early 30's) are divorced with a kid at home. It is just different here, especially coming from California where many people marry in their late 30's/early 40's (if at all).

It is not to the point where I feel like I am the old scary guy at the bar or anything like that, but just keep in mind that most people will be younger. People are more traditional here...maybe closer to Southie. I have actually had several people think I am gay because I am not married yet!

Anyway, remember that this is a generalization and only my experience so far but...it is my honest opinion of the situation I have seen up to this point.
