That's draws quite some concern with me. How much of the island will be left after say 10-15 years?
Galveston will last forever. They steal the sand from Bolivar Pin and put it on there beaches.

Bolivar is still a peninsula, and still is. Galveston is a island, and will sink back into the Gulf Of Mexico someday. And I hope this happens in my life time.

Gilchrist has been destroyed afew times by storms. It will come back, it always has, and always will. Because it is part of Bolivar.

Yeah there is alot of history there. Slaving, red light distric, and over priced food. I don't know one decent place to eat in Galveston. I have lived in Galveston County for over 60 years.
The only thing that has changed in Galveston since the 1900 storm is the price's. Everything else is the same. Idiots running it.
I sort of agree with some of what you said, but I dearly loved eating at Gaido's (and Casey's). And Nopalitos. Whether Galveson comes back and how fast it comes back will be the result of three factors;

1. Money;

2. Money; and

3. Money

Also, another factor that will be important will be money.

There's at least one area of Galveston, Beachtown, where the beaches are apparently getting larger.
It's also the site of Coastal Living Magazine's 2008 Idea House.

there is a way to fix it and have houses along the beach but if I suggest it tree huggers and people inside the loop won't like it. They need to extend the sea wall to the end of the island. Then they need to build a levee on the backside of the island and install pumps. The frontside of the seawall needs to extend about 20 feet higher and the frontside of the island needs to be raised another 20 feet. 45 between the bridge to maybe Nasa Road 1 needs to be elevated a few feet. This would protect it from even catogery 5 hurricanes. It would also help protect Texas City, Clear Lake, Friendswood, Seabrook.

Sea wall on both sides , and signs at each end, that say, "water, stay out"
