Default Fiberglass pool....$40k?

I was wondering about the cost of installing a pool and did a search on this website. Some of the threads and posts I read mentioned pool installs costing $40-45k. Am I correct in assuming that's the install cost for a concrete, gunite pool? Because that seems to be way too high a price for a fiberglass pool install (according to the Internet research I've done).

Does anybody know how much it would cost to install a fiberglass pool?

Thanks.

I too have not seen a fiberglass pool in Texas installed in YEARS!!!! They don't last and are NOT worth it. Come resale, they are just as bad as having an above ground pool. No markup and more than likely a HUGE decrease in price. I would not waste $15K on one. If you don't want to splurge for a gunite pool save the $15K and join a nice gym with great pools and such.

gunite pools have pretty much put them out of business and can be had for not much more. plus if you want to design/shape a pool you have to use concrete or gunite. fiberglass will crack over time.

If you get a plain pool - round, oblong - nothing fancy you can get one at a reasonable price tag. Th 40k price tag are for the large ones with fancy water drops, etc. Price varies depending if you buy a plain jane or a luxury work of art.

I have done hours of reading about pool installs and types.

Concrete and Gunite can't come close to touching the ease and cost of maintenance, longevity, and installation cost of fiberglass.

I don't know why people are bashing fiberglass??? Maybe they are mad because they are stuck with an older concrete beast? Or maybe they are mad because they are concrete business owners?

Don't worry concrete lovers! Concrete is still king for providing a nice walkway around the fiberglass pool. Seriously if anyone is really considering concrete over fiberglass and wants to throw more money at the installer, get a smaller warranty, pay more on maintenance every year - please walk barefoot out to your concrete driveway. Rub your feet around in the concrete - feel nice? I didn't think so, but be proud of your stubborness.

By the way - does that concrete driveway of yours have any cracks in it? My concrete driveway sure does! Why are people talking about fiberglass cracking? Thats a laugh, please do a little bit of research.

Fiberglass is 17 times stronger than concrete and never needs to be resurfaced - never ever! At least $2000 to resurface a concrete pool every 7-8 years. Never have to do that with fiberglass. The fiberglass shell should remain exactly the way it is for decades!

You never need to empty the water from a fiberglass pool come winter time. Don't believe me - look it up.

I'm looking at having a pool installed this summer. I am 100% going with fiberglass. Concrete and gunite can both go pound sand, wait make that glass - fiberglass.

Also, please go with the new salt/cell type chlorinators. Sand and earth filters are very stone age, harder to maintain cleaner pool and more expensive!

Here is a sample price in my area for 2009 - ends 6-30-09
And it comes with a walkway! A great filter and a multicolor light which can do programmed shows!

Default Our soil conditions make fiberglass a poor choice for pools

I'm assuming the above poster sells fiberglass pools, because there isn't anyone I've met that would recommend one in the expansive soil we have here in the Houston area. When the ground becomes extremely saturated the soil expands and can push up a fiberglass pool.
Its happened here many times--thats why you'll find most contractors won't even build a below ground fiberglass pool.
However, fiberglass is great when you need to replaster your pool. Going over gunite, it is very durable and smooth on your feet.
Our soil conditions are why a fiberglass pool is not recommended. In other parts of Texas or the country they may make fine pools.

It's pretty obvious. Joined in June. Only one post. And supposedly has been doing a bunch of reading up on these pools... only having read up and yet has very strong opinions on how they actually are.
