Default Oh, And By The Way.....

.....those New Yorkers that founded the city of Houston, it's the only good thing they've ever done!

Default Oh, And By The Way II

To add to something a couple of posts ago, I forgot that Houston's traffic is far better than the standstill, snail-paced traffic in NYC. How can one forget?

A mistake I can admit being wrong about like an adult. I was misinformed, but I should have checked my facts. Still, it isn't like you knew. I love the way you copied it word for word off of wikipedia.

But, yeah you're right. Houston is a mediocre city. No one knows a lick about it. I guess all of these 90+ nationalities here must have been aiming for Los Angeles and crash landed in Texas. And all of these F500 companies probably just needed another slab of cow land to stick their businesses in. Whatever.

Houston is not that big, but it is big time. You don't have to agree, it will just be another fact that you're in the dark on.
First off, when I do not know something I openly say so, which I did. It is better to admit your ignorance and research the facts, like I did, than impose your ignorance onto others by making false statements, - like you did. So who is in the dark, really?
And yes, I quoted it from Wikipedia. I said that it was a quote from Wikipedia and it was in quoting format. Pay attention next time. This is what educated people do. They quote sources to prove their point. They do not shoot their mouth w/o checking facts first.

I openly admitted I did not know a small trivia fact that is hardly important to anybody but a handful of cardiology specialists. You are the one who pretended to know it all and goofed up.

Also, educated and decent people follow logical rules of discussion. Again, pay attention. I have never said or implied that Houston is a "mediocre city" or that "nobody knows a lick about Houston".

But why waste time...

You keep believing that Houston projects the same power and influence as
Moscow or Washington or London, etc. if that makes you feel so much more important person - living in "navel of the Earth" called Houston.

Where's the public transportation? Angelenos like to assert personal responsibility in their transportation (Talking like Republicans? I thought this is a Democratic city? Maybe it's just the Libertarianism that is predominant in the West.:yuck but look how bad their freeways are.

It's got palm trees (just try finding THAT in NY). I don't believe this is even a contest --- Houston and the rest of Texas is just far superior!
I don't think NYC wants or needs to copy L.A.'s desert by the sea. We have a lot to learn from the GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD! Hopefully half of the Finance industry relocates to Houston.

KerrTown, we can always agree to disagree, and that's fine. There is plenty of opportunity in the South, and that's why people are moving to the great state of Texas. But Houston does need to get more proactive with rail, so I'll give you that. I have faith they will. The more options you have, the better. But, come on, we have better scenery and better weather and better food. Give me Galveston over Coney Island any day. And don't forget, we have friendlier people in H-town, and that most certainly is no contest, my friend. NYC doesn't need to copy anything because it's simply irrelevant to me. It's just another big city in the northeast with rude people, pickpockets and filth. I'm sorry, but I have no desire to walk out of Kennedy Airport to see the "sights". I can stay right here and get my money's worth.

It's a shame that rather than answer questions of pros and cons, that people resort to childish city bashing each other's homes. Unless you have lived in both, you can't honestly even contribute to answering the original posters' question. People live where they do for a reason and if they like it they stay. I've only visited NYC a few times so I couldn't begin to make comments on living there (living and visiting are two different animals - as are the cities of NYC and Houston).

Houston has a great economy, is considered a great place for start-ups because it is a breeding ground for those who want to own businesses, extremely reasonable housing. You can buy a phenomenal home at an unbelievable price and it be in a great area. It is not a pretty city - just an average city in appearance. We seem to tear down our history in favor of building shiny, gleeming buildings. Flat, so when it rains the streets flood. But the warm weather lifestyle lends itself to a lot of personal pleasure in your off time. The people are exceptionally friendly and it exudes warmth. It has its crime issues as any major, metropolitan area would. Extremely diverse in population which leads to some outstanding restaurants and cultural events.

Great inner city living to be found close to theatre, arts, parks, etc. Great burbs for those who prefer to live out and less expensively.

Regardless of what goes on in any country - who did that or who did that, etc. it doesn't take away from the things that make Houston's economy good. Again, though I don't think Houstonians necessarily compare their city with others - it is what it is. All cities have things that make them good and or bad. Sure, Russia has the reserves but if they kick those companies you mentioned out - it won't hurt a thing - the majority of them are exploring more and spending more in many other countries and in places you can't imagine. Aerospace is a big part of the Houston economy and offers a lot of jobs to residents regardless of past events in other countries. Houston has one of the finest med centers in the world. World leaders and celebrities have come here for treatment. It may not be your cup of tea but it has a lot of things to offer the right residents who do enjoy it.

Have you ever been to the East Coast or are you working with a stereotype?

Comparing NYC to Houston is like comparing apples to bok choy. I love both cities. And yes, I love bok choy.
