Default For those of you that started clean-up in Galveston....

How bad is it? Is it very dangerous? How about mosquitos or disease? (stagnant water) My husband wants to come help with the clean-up so I wanted some input on it. My neighbor once helped out after a hurricane in Miami. He said he couldn't stand seeing what was going on. Ppl didn't have food or water. There was looting. Also the concerns of disease from stagnant water. I wanted to see if it's really that bad b/c this is something that would really help with work. The economy is so bad, he can't find work here in FL.

If you are cleaning up in Galveston or any flooded area - you want to make sure you have a tetnus shot (just in case you get cut) and if you are in stagnant water with a cut - might want to consider hepatitis vaccine as well.

I second that. Make sure he is up-to-date on all his shots and has a good stack of cleaning, bug repellant and personal hygiene supplies, including bleach to decon footware. A small first aid kit to carry around would be a good idea too. They are doing aerial spraying for mosquitos but that only works to a limited extent.
