The saggy pants thing was around when I was in middle school, which for me was around '89-91. Saggy pants that purposefully expose whale tails is a relatively new phenomenon though, mainly for girls but sometimes guys too.

As far as the Neiman Marcus / Nordstrom thing goes for the thuggishly dressed, it thins out quite a bit but I've definitely seen them in there.

I think that the argument is more how they act rather than how they dress. I couldn't care less how they dress; in fact I admire a young person going against the norm. If they want to wear their shiny jeans down to their knees, so be it. However, when their behavior is thuggish and threatening, then that's a different matter altogether.

I think the mentality of acting thuggish when you dress thuggish go hand in hand. When you dress up in a tuxedo or formal wear don't you feel and act different? How about when you go to a ball game, and dress in team gear, don't it change your attitude. I know when I dress up to the nines I feel like a million bucks, on the other hand when I dress in an old pair of jeans or shorts and maybe a raggedy shirt, I feel somewhat more laid back and lazy.

This past saturday, coming out of the "new" Macy's, we were going down the escalator, my 5 year old daughter rushed to get on first, and kids are kids, so she got on the very next step behind the girl in front who was wearing some of those low waistline jeans... well, the girl's boyfriend dropped something and let (more like expected) the girl bend down on the escalator to pick whatever it was, up. Well, this honey was not a size 2.... more like 8, or more, and when she bent down, her blouse lifted up exposing a chasm of a crack, six inches from my daughter's face!

My daughter did not know any better, my wife and I wanted to burst out laughing, but we did not want to offend the couple.

BTW, this begs another question... why do some of the young girls at the mall wear skin tight tops with boobs, arms, and gut jiggling and popping out like the dough from those biscuits that come in those cardboard cylinders... you know, you pound the cylinder on the counter, and it explodes and the biscuits hang out the seams? I am serious here, has no one ever told them it is not flattering, or are they divas who don't care and think they look sexy? These were also in abundance at the mall that day.

Don't you know that's a "normal" size woman???? Anything under a size 10 is considered anorexic. Haven't you been beaten down enough yet to accept that???? It's HEALTHY to be fat and jiggly!!!

Fat rolls exposed, it's the new cleavage.

God save us all.

The demographics encountered in the Galleria hasn't changed since the first time I stepped foot in that giant monstrosity; all shades and all walks of life. What has changed is the attitudes encountered. I never used to feel like I needed to be ready for a fistfight on the way to Sharper Image, now if you inadvertently make eye-contact on your way past the Sunglass Hut it becomes a game of chicken. I think that's what the OP is trying to convey. "Going ghetto" has very little to do with race and everything to do with posture and attitude. For example, do you think that white trash and blue-collar are synonymous?

No they are not! Blue collar are hard working people. White trash are white welfare suckers!

It's posture and attitude, like he said.
