Oh and the inner loop really is pretty cool. Most people just don't live there, so they don't really have a point of reference. It's about the package buddy.
I'm obviously going to agree with you there. And I see your location is Boston, which is my second favorite American city. It reminds me of an American London. As much as I really do like Houston, there is no way I would ever live outside of the loop. My life is not meant to be wasted sitting in traffic and listening to loud music played by the suburbanite kids in the mega stereo of the car their daddy bought them.

People act as if this "inner loop" mentality is exclusive to Houston. If you live in NYC, same mentality exists if you live in lower Manhattan. The DC area has the inside the beltway mentality. To a lesser extent, San Francisco has it when you get very far south of Market St. (except for the SOMA district). Even in Boston, some people think Quincy is off in the burbs. So it is all relative, but generally anyone that lives in a city's core will likely have that core mentality.

You certainly don't hear people raving about living in Tacoma and comparing it to Seattle.

It doesn't really matter what anyone says---Tstone, Hayato, Kung Fu Panda..anyone. The inner loop is the CENTER of Houston. It is the pinnacle and the soul source of Houston culture. That is undeniable. Where you may live may be nice, but it is not the center (well, maybe the center of your world, but not many other people's).

You don't see me hating on Back Bay or Beacon Hill, (and the same goes for the boroughs of NYC and Manhattan) but you know, that's probably because I (they) have just as much to do here as people at the center of it all.

So chill. A tall glass of haterade and vodka should do the trick.

I agree. Never said it wasn't. Though I'm not ostentatious enough to really care. On the other hand, you can't deny the smug attitude from some individuals inside the loop. Maybe it's a C-D issue. There are good and bad sides to anywhere you can live around here. But when you have to justify the "I live here because I despise this, that sucks, I'll never do this when I get older, etc" instead of describing the positive aspects of your own community, it just makes you look inanely defensive and childish. There's too much negativity. And it's not really a good way to sell up your hood, to be honest. The same could be said for the ignorant snobs in the burbs. They have their own brand of stupidity but the concept is exactly the same.

When it all comes down to it, I tell myself that most of us in the metro are all about the same. We try to enjoy where we've settled for now, and just want to live our lives without someone coming around, Moderator cut: see comment spreading the negativity, making false claims, labeling/accusing/thought-policing, etc.

BTW, I'll have a cold beer from Oregon. I learned in college screwdrivers and Ex-Lax are one and the same.

The reasons I don't like it are:

1. The summers are 100 plus degrees with 90% or so humidity.
2. Its wide open in the suburbs, with no shade from trees.
3. Every piece of wooded land has a FOR SALE sign on it(which means it will be turned into another cookie cutter neighborhood, strip center, or an unneeded office park) anywhere in Houston besides Bear Creek Park and the US Army Corps flood control land on Clay Rd.
4. Not much wildlife to view in your backyard(just birds).
5. Crime is high, with gangs in many neighborhoods.
6. In the non summer months the weather is unpredictable, which bothers my allergies a lot.

I forgot to mention the lack of space to store vehicles in Houston, which means you have to waste money on storage facilities.

After spending far too much of my evening reviewing the last couple of days worth of posts, it appears that nothing positive will be accomplished by re-opening this 100 day-old thread. Threads like this with a negative premise bring out the worst in people. Thread closed.
