59 varies a lot from 55 to 70. Just don't speed between New Caney to Livingston as lots of speed traps in those little town along there

59 is the fastest way. It does not have a steady speed throughout as it passes many towns with stoplights, but generally is 70 mph until you reach Montgomery County where it drops to 60 MPH. You will want to take the loops around Lufkin, Nacadoches, Cleveland, and Livingston ignore the one in Marshall. Beware of the cops around Diboll and Corrigan and make sure you strictly follow the speed limits there.

Just so you don't get confused by above poster, stay on 59 thru Livingston and Cleveland, they have a business 59 loop that goes through town. The worst speed trap is Patton Village just past New Caney. There is almost always a motorcycle cop there writing tickets, and that is a 55 construction zone, although I haven't seen him as much since the storm.

As you've heard and see, 59 goes through MANY small towns. Please don't drive it like you're on an Interstate. You're not. Be careful of slow, old pick-ups and locals driving 45 when you are wanting to go 75. It is indeed the best way to Texarkana, but watch out for speed traps and DRASTIC changes in speed along the way. Also, you have to loop around some towns like and Lufkin Nacogdoches if you want to save some time.
If your final destination is something other than Texarkana and you want a more mindless drive, taking I-45 into Dallas is often just as fast, even though it's longer.
