Default Good areas to live in Houston

My in-laws plan on moving to Houston and I would like to know which areas are considered good (low crime, nice) to live in Houston. My father-in-law plans to work in the 77082 zip code. Thanks!

Smile South Katy/Cinco Ranch

In that area I would recommend South Katy/Cinco Ranch area. It is a very nice area and still affordable. Almost no crime at all there and the schools are some of the best in the state. This would be Zip Code 77450 or 77494.

Thanks! Is the zip code 77082 itself a good area?

Smile Not really that great

No 77082 is only an O.K. area. It is probably about an average slice of the whole Houston area. It is not that great of an area though. You would be better off in South Katy. Just continue down the Westpark tollway and go north on Mason rd. It is about 10 minutes from 77082.

I wish my community is on 77082. I think you should check it out. The ShadowLake community if you want a house/yard/community relations. Theres also the Ashfords subdivisions, theyre a little old tho. There are lots of new construction luxury apartments on West Houston Blvd, near the hospital, and walking distance from major chain stores, and great dining options. theres a driving range right there, Mediterranian foods and shopping and all bunch of goodies. there are also great apartments on eldrige pkwy and a little bit north, Briar forest is really happening.
Sure, go Katy if you have kids to send to school(like these guys), but I doubt they actually checkedout 77082.

I agree with Wysiwyg, I would look into Katy if they had kids in school. Definitely the area below that zip code, on the south side I10 is better if it was just a couple. Katy is an affordable area with great schools and a great family atmosphere. The area that I recommended has those same qualities but is a bit more expensive and would have higher crime (its no where close to a high crime area). Katy is booming as well, but the W. Houston area around the energy corridor is really booming. If they had the money then I would look into neighborhoods along Eldridge and Briar Forest because they are neighborhoods that are older, more established, and mature trees.

You can do a lot worse on the west side though.

Whatever you do should be OK. South Katy/Cinco Ranch aren't a very far drive away.

You need to get an EZ Tag to use the Westpark Tollway.

My brother and his family live in Katy now and they love it! They have three kids under 13, and no problems there at all. He's a minister at the Cinco Ranch Church of Christ, and they think it's the best place they've been.

Looks like a heavy industrial area to me.
