I'll take rude, incompetent and fast any day. Here in the Bay Area they all drive like 80 year old women, with nobody wanting to break 60 mph.

If you ever drove in southern California you will agree.
All 6 lanes of I-5 do well over the artificially low limits. The left lane generally is for the very fast expensive sports cars. The next 2 left lanes are for fast quality cars with pretty good drivers. The right lanes are generally for the cheap trash like Dodge, VWs Hyundais and the like.
These unwritten rules are generally followed by all. When they are not followed then you will read about a road rage incident in the next mornings paper. If you ever run into a traffic jam, and peek up ahead, 99 times out of 100 it is a Chrysler/Dodge vehicle holding up traffic.
In the short time I been here, and I try to stay out of the city, I almost never find anyone going fast. I find the Rednecks out in the country far more exceeding the FM speed limits then I do on any of the major roads in and around Houston.

I was on 288 heading toward Angleton Friday night doing about 75-80 and getting passed.
A few years ago when I lived in Alvin, I was driving a Dodge Shadow convertible and was out on FM 2004 in the middle of nowhere in Brazoria County. The sheriff doesn't seem to patrol much out there. I decided to see just how fast my little POS car could go. 105. I'm glad I didn't get caught.

I think the saying that Houstonians are friendly is exaggerated. There are lots of unfriendly people here whether they get behind the wheel or not. At least New Yorkers admit they're not nice, thus not being hypocrites.
