I-10 is great!
Okay, well not all of I-10, but from Katy to downtown, it is now officially great! Having lived in Katy as an adult for 25+ years, I now find it acceptable to drive from Katy to the inner loop at any time of the day. Can I get an amen?!
It was awful for many years, I won't deny that, but it is very smooth now, even when there is a slowdown, it's nothing like what it was just a couple of months ago. I average 60-80 both in the morning, and afternoons. I now can get to/from the inner loop to Katy proper in 30-35 minutes with the flow of traffic.
Also, the Toll Road authority is losing money, on me anyway. I used to take the Westpark tollway in and out often because I had to pick up my kids from school. I also used to take 59>Westpark Tollway>I-10 on the way home at times, but I don't need to do that anymore either.
So for those thinking about living in Katy, and chose not to because of the traffic, you can remove that reason from your list.
I think the effort is now underway to do H290. I'm glad I don't ever have to use that freeway, but if it's anything like the ordeal was with I-10, it will be good in about, oh, eight years.
One thing I noticed though are the numerous revenue generators out there now, Houston's Finest, aka HPD.

yeah, I-10 is rocking now. Katy would be the best commute from any exburb at this point (once you get to the freeway).
I had a meeting this morning downtown and it took me 20 minutes from the Beltway to Bagby.

I-10 splits into 5 lanes just after Kirkwood and smooth sailing from there. HWY 290 wont see any action or changes until 2012 from what I have read.

Give it 10 years and I-10 will be the same as it was a few years ago.

I would have to say 5 years at the rate that Cinco Ranch is growing.

Not being negative at all, just stating the growth Katy is having that's all.

Hey Mom, nice tagline (Hey Obama, how's Grandma?)... especially considering she just died.

Definitely awesome! So glad to have my husband home at a reasonable time every evening. And I'm not going for the pessimism or growth projections or whatever. The managed toll lanes should only help with the situation when they open in the spring.

Im still new here but what I see are those managed toll lanes empty. Seems to me that we are witnessing yet another waste of tax payers money to build something no one wants. I-10 is moving nicely now not because we lost some car counts to these toll lanes but because we did gain additional travel lanes.
Come to think of it I travel 59 north of Houston more often then other roads and those inner lanes are also empty while the travel lanes are full.
The way I feel about those lanes is we all, each and every one of us, paid to build those lanes yet only a small few are legally allowed to use them.
In today's world of discrimination and profiling being such a dirty thing to do.... the govt who forces those HOV lanes on us are not practicing what they preach.
Does anyone else feel this way?
