Harris & Montgomery County Property Taxes
I know alot has been written about property taxes in Harris and Montgomery Counties but I thought it would be a good idea to get homeowners to post the amount of property tax they pay as a % to their assessed home values (less homestead exemption).
Please be sure to indicate what city/ municipality/ ISD, etc you live in.
For example:
Zip: 77024/ Home Value = $300,000/ Annual Prop Taxes= $6,000
This will give us ALL a good idea of where the lowest and highest property taxes are as we can then be able to google map the zip codes.
cheers

Other ways to compare taxes?
I was looking for some way to compare taxes and related costs between Montgomery and Harris counties and came across this thread. We're new to the Houston area, currently renting a house in The Woodlands while we figure out in which area we'd like to buy. I've seen references to TW having high property taxes (or maybe it was MUD?) and others comment that Harris is infamous for its high property taxes, etc.
Are there any resources -- online or elsewhere -- to help compare taxes between the counties? This may be a dumb question but are the rates flat by county or do they vary from ZIP to ZIP (as implied in OP)? By development/community? School district? And what about MUD taxes?
I guess what I'm trying to figure out are the annual "hidden" costs when shopping homes based on their area/district, etc.
(in an ideal world, i'd love to compile the data into a spreadsheet and then be able to enter a home's value and ZIP and have it spit out annual costs.)

The County tax is the same but you have additional taxes depending on what taxing authorities you live within i.e. school district, emergency district and MUD which is the water and sewer provider. What they do here is borrow a bunch of money to build out the new water and sewer for developments then the homeowners pay it back thru the MUD tax which is high at the start thenf alls over time as the bonds are paid off.

77024 is at 2.8%. That's one of the lowest tax rates in the metro, yet has one of the highest property values in the Metro.
The highest taxes in the Houston area is in the MPC's/Exurbs that have MUD districts. I see numbers upwards of 3.4% out there.
