I'm considering their current deal of $0.1295/kW fixed for 12 mo. I have to dump this TXU plan I'm on that's charging over $0.18/kW. I know things might still go down a little but I just would prefer locking in now anyway just in case.

Anyone have any reasons that I should avoid using them? Hidden fees, bad service, anything like that?

When I used Spark I had absolutely no problems. No hidden fees either.

Look into StarTex Power, if you have it available in your area. They have historically had the lowest rates I've found on all the different fixed plans.

They had a great month to month rate when I was doing my semi-annual rate comparison, so I switched to them. Problem is, they forgot to mention that they had no intention of offering competitive month to month rates on an ongoing basis. Turns out they were just trying to get folks in the door with a teaser rate, then give 'em the high pressure sales pitch to switch to a fixed rate plan. They're shady IMHO.

Default I'm with CIRRO

With all the adjustments from Hurricane Ike for the last 2 statements, I got a really nice surprise when my bill showed up yesterday for $18.48.

This will help balance out the $400 current cell phone bill !

I used Spark for a year and had no problems. However, when my year long contract was up, the amount my rate skyrocketed to was INSANE. I wasn't able to switch fast enough and paid a horrible rate for one month. But I'm thinking every company does that when your contract is up.

I just recently signed up with StarTex after my 12-month fixed rate with Reliant expired... however I ended up paying a month or two of Reliant's flex plan at 17 cents or so. So how does everyone else who switches to the best deal every 12 months do it? Do you put in for the switch at the end of your 11th month in order to get switched over in time while also avoiding paying any plan cancellation fees with your old company? What's the trick?
