not a whole lot to see and do ...

well not anything much more different than any other major cities(as u can see the above post are all readily available in any metropolitan area)

Go to the Toyota Center and see a Houston Aeros hockey game if they are in town.
Recently did this myself and it was 10 times more fun than I was expecting. Sat right behind the glass and tickets were less than $15.00. Great fun.

How'd you manage that? I looked on the Aeros website and it looks like Glass tickets are $61?
