A two-story complex.

A wee bit of difference between two stories and twenty three stories.

At any rate this is the price of "urbanization" that some cry about. More people squeezed into a smaller space.

True. But I have seen many empty spaces around Houston. Since that is one of the nice parts of town, I'm sure they would rather have this building built anywhere else. Maybe when the other sides of town get a bit more gentrified, then they will think about putting one of these developments there.

Not only is this irrelevant regarding the "renters" issue, but it's interesting how these are basically people who wish they had the money for a house in River Oaks where they have not one but two of these.

Actually some of those enclaves around the Museum District consider River Oaks a step down. But yeah, River Oaks has the Huntington and what a few other hi-rises and survived just fine. Tanglewood has too.

True. If I get what you are saying, then there are going to be plenty of people who move in them (if the price s right). Like you said, they will be people who wish they could live in that area. Heck, they wish they lived near that area. It's funny they are building this high-rise in this area, and that people are fighting it. I'm sure there are many places they could build it. I don't know the specifics of course.

Kind of like the Endeavour on Clear Lake - area residents didn't want that tall eyesore sticking up in the landscape of the lake. Idiot developer went bankrupt - place is still pretty vacant. There were plans to build about 3 or 4 more of these things until the others saw what happened to this one .... all plans gone. Same probably won't happen in Houston though - too many high earners who can afford a nice upscale place and want to be centrally located in town -- I'm sure it will fill up fast.

My comment/reply was regarding the height issue, not the renters aspect. Sorry for any confusion.

Renters are not the issue. Height/traffic and appropriateness of the structure are the issues.

The Huntington is on Kirby, a four lane street with additional turn lanes, maybe 5-6 lanes total, plus traffic lights controlling traffic. The Ashby highrise is on Bissonnet & Ashby, both are only two lane roads, with no turn lanes and no signals. Bissonnet is already terribly overcrowded. I used to use it to get home, I now take a different route because it's stop and go the entire stretch between Montrose & Kirby.
