From what I have heard (have no idea if true or untrue) is that there are no plans to do so in the immediate future. My guess is that as the are population grows with housing and retail will determine when they opt to do it.

IIRC isn't the land in that part of town prone to sink-holes? If so, development will be sparse, and it'll take awhile before they add onto that feeder. It would be nice for me, having a Lexus lane up that way to IAH though.

Construction to begin next summer, estimated completion sometime in 2011.

I think they are already working on the Crosby Freeway (90) that will go through there. Maybe they're wanting to get that done first?
It's been a few years since I've been up around there, but there isn't a whole lot. Not as much population/development as along most any other stretch of the beltway. They're aiming for 2011, but who knows what can happen - it's probably not as big a priority as the work on the other main freeways, like what they've been doing on 45 since it was built.

last time i drove in that area there was not much traffic. I think there are other freeways that need more attention before any work is done on beltway 8. Lets get traffic moving on 290 first.

Are we talking about the section north of US 90 Freeway and east of 59? If so, all that will need to be done is put lanes down the middle of the feeder roads. Overpasses and some clear-cutting of course, but nothing compared to rebuilding 290.

the section that goes over the Houston Ship Channel would be a major rebuilding. I like that the area is not overdeveloped.

But the section I'm talking about does not include anything near the Ship Channel. I don't believe they are reconstructing that.
