There is no oustanding Thai in Houston. At least I have yet to find any that compares to Chicago. Conversely, I have not found Vietnamese food in Chicago that compares to Houston.

My neighbors from Chicago like Nidda Thai on Westheimer. Also, they like a few of the Thai places in the Bellaire/Beltway area though most only accept cash, no credit. In their opinion, Houston's Thai food is dramatically better than Chicago.

Everyone is in agreement that Chicago's Vietnamese food is awful.

I'm sorry but the stereotypically strong fish smell is enough for me to not even want to be around it, much less try it. Some people blow up our office with that and it can stink to high heaven for hours, within several thousand square feet.

Try the Thai Cafe....Westheimer at Lakeside Estates in the same shopping center as Office Depot. It is very good.

I used to love the Thai Pepper, long ago on Post Oak. Good firey stuff.

Nit Noi usually works for me, but only the original one in Rice Village.

I don't think there is better Vietnamese food in any other city vs. Houston. I've been to California and was utterly disappointed!

(not sure if someone has mentioned this or not)

Are there any good southern foods (like Goodsons or Mels country cafe) that are located within the loop? Seems like all the good southern foods are sold up in Tomball.

Great authentic Italian food (not Italian-American) can be had at reasonable prices from Via Emilia on FM 1960. The place is run by real Italians. I live nowhere close to there, but don't mind making the trip.
