I should also add Barcenas in Friendswood -- definitely worth trying.

Lucky Village works for me. Westheimer @ Fountain View.

I like this post as I am a professional eater.

Fast Food - Whataburger
Mexican - Los Cucos
TexMex - Chachos
BBQ - Larry's (all a brotha can eat!), or Goode
Smoothie - Smoothie King
Cajun - Boudreaux's
Thai - Mai's Restaurant
Kolache - Kolache Factory (yeah, how commercial is that?)
Donut - Shipley
Wings - BW3s
Burger - Fuddruckers
Pizza - Brothers Pizza, CiCi's (again, all a brova can eat)

Ok, so I am aware that most of my picks are chains, but Philly is poisoned with mom and pop shops. Every once in a while you miss the good ole sellout chains!

If you're talking about the one downtown, that is Vietnamese, not Thai. Btw, what is a good restaurant that sells awesome hot dogs? Please don't mention Coney Island.

Man JamesLang? The bad part is I know that place is Vietnamese. I keep telling myself that, but I always say Thai because it rhymes with Mai. UGH! The worst part about it, I looked the place up right before I posted JUST TO BE SURE it is Viet. My mind is tricky! Thanks for the correction.

As far as hot dogs are concerned . . . how 'bout Coney Island? HA, just kidding. I'm not sure if it's like this anymore, but when I was a kid Fuddruckers had some great hot dogs. But yeah, Coney Island is my place of choice when in Houston. Granted, there are no Fuddruckers in Philly, but there are a few within a 1.5 hour radius. Coney Island on the other hand . . . closest one is . . . well . . . New York! Sorta . . .

Wink Cali's for Vietnamese

I've tried over the past 15 years to find better and/or cheaper food than Cali's. If a restaurant is as good, it's more expensive. If it's cheaper food than Cali's (hard to find!), it's not nearly as good. Try Cali's and see if you agree. Go and order the #24. Or one of the huge $2.50 smoothies. Or a $2.50 sandwich.
Warning: the waitresses are a bit surly. Local charm and all.
P.S. Mai's and Van Loc can't compete with Cali's.

Too bad they don't have the buy 5 sandwiches, get 1 free anymore. We used to milk that for all it was worth. Also when Bodard on Bellaire had the buy 2 get 1 free. That one didn't last very long.

If you really want some good Vietnamese food in downtown/midtown, go to Pho Nga restaurant on Milam.
