Original Ninfa's on Navigation
Brazo's - Crowne Plaza (best bacon wrapped stuff prawns)
Niko Nikos - Gyro heaven and their potatoes are to die for.
And that Meditterainian place next to Bollywood (downtown) - great Indian food.

What???? Blasphemy! Seriously though, if you know of somewhere better, or if Pisa Pie is really that much better let me know. I like Star a lot but certainly don't doubt there is somewhere better in Houston.

Since you're on the SW side, look into a place called Angelo's which is on a street near Braeswood/Chimney Rock called Birdwood. Real hole-in-the-wall sort of place; you're fully capable of driving right by it and missing it. Takeout/delivery only - I think they deliver within 5 miles. They also do a decent gyro, a notch or two below Niko Niko's but not bad for being delivered to me. Mind you - and knowing you're from Chitown it's important I stress this - what Angelo's calls a "Chicago-style" crust isn't what it sounds like. I stick to the regular hand-tossed myself.

Signature Bistro - Seabrook
Gabacho's Mexican - Seabrook
Used to like Cyclone Anaya's in Midtown - too loud and overpriced now
Maria Selma's Mexican (great tequlia selection) - Richmond
La Cantina - Deer Park and BW-8 & 45
La Griglia - West Gray
Paulie's - Westheimer
Baba Yega - Grant
Barnaby's - West Gray
Grappino di Nino - West Dallas
Mosquito Cafe - Galveston
Pics on 45th - Galveston
Churrasco - South Shepherd
The Grove at Discovery Green - food is so-so but atmosphere is nice
El Patio - Midtown
District 7 - Hutchins - everything is great here
Demeris BBQ - S. Shepherd and Hempstead Hwy near Northwest Mall

Oh wow!! Someone else knows of Taqueria Del Sol!! Been going to that place for YEARS! Yes, great mexican food. Used to love Leo's on Washington before they closed. Tony's on Ella is also ok.
Pricey - lots of those around. Can't go wrong with Mark's. I like Bistro Vino for the ambience, not so much the food. Going to Mockingbird Bistro this weekend, can't wait...heard great things.
Seafood - Tony Mandola's on W. Gray
Random favorites - Backstreet Cafe, Ibiza Food and Wine Bar, Capital Grill, La Strada

Well, it was a terrific restaurant in Houston but I hadn't been in several years. However, I just looked it up because I thought I might take my wife there for dinner this evening and it has closed. It used to be in Hotel Icon in downtown. It was great. Been replaced with a place called Voice so we are going to try that instead.

I'm from S.A., but really like Cavatore's for Italian. Like Brother's Pizza (Hwy 6 and I-10), also a location in Spring just north of 1960 off 45 (Cypress-Springwood, maybe?). I agree that Star Pizza is way overrated. And Timmy Chan's Beef Fried Rice is the BOMB!!
