Got a suggestion? I suppose I can try it out. I haven't been to a good one yet.

Blech. Try Alfreda's Cafeteria in Third Ward/Museum District for soul food.

Thanks everyone for all of the responses so far! This thread has turned out to be a lot of fun.
I still can't stop laughing that someone called Black Eyed Pea soul food, priceless!!!

I am definitely going to try some of the pizza suggestions, Tony Mandola's on W. Gray, and although only a few blocks away, definitely want to try Mockingbird Bistro.

Cheers and Salud everyone!

I too have enjoyed this thread. Im still a little new here and have developed few favorites so far.

The only one I can list is a big favorite of mine. DNR European Cafe on Montrose Bvd where it crosses over 59. I dont get into Houston too often but when I do I will always stop for this place.

No one mentioned Pappas Seafood yet. Is it just because there is one on almost every corner and everyone has had it a hundred times already?

That is the best hole-in-the wall type Mexican place I've been to so far. We spent $16 + a $5 tip on two platters a few days ago.

I should also add Barcenas in Friendswood -- definitely worth trying.

Los Tios huh. That's a sore subject w/ me. When it was locally owned, it was among the best in town.

After it was sold to Skeeters chain... well, you can have it.

IMO Ninfas is about the only chain worth suggesting.

wow...maybe i missed it but Fogo De Chao, 8250 Westheimer Rd. for MEAT! How can anyone not enjoy an endless amount of MEAT! I go there once a month (sometimes twice!) My wife, MD...says she feels guilty telling her patients to eat healthy and cut down on MEAT....while married to a Meatatarian...

Well, I can only speak for San Antonio as far as Chinese buffets are concerned...we have a place here called Chopsticks, which I think is excellent. It's near 410 and Callaghan, if you're ever in the vicinity.
