Katy area experts?
Maybe some of you here can help me out, I know some about it but not enough.
My friend's family wants to move from Austin to the general area of southern Katy or possibly northern Sugar Land. They want a master-planned community with lots of amenities, for kids especially. They have 2 toddlers who will be entering elementary school soon, so they need a great elementary. Trees, lakes, parks all great -- no fields. They want a newer home (built within last 2 years or so, or new) in the price range of about $250-300k, 4 bedrooms, good construction with nice upgrades.
So does this place exist? Would Cinco Ranch work? If it's Katy they don't want to be too far from Sugar Land. Greatwood in Sugar Land was apparently no good because of the schools or some other reason they didn't like it. Telfair is too new and can't tell how kid-friendly it will be yet. Anything in Katy too far north/too close to I-10 they're not interested in.
Suggestions?

There is Cinco Ranch, Long Meadow Farms, Grand Lakes, Seven Meadows and Westheimer Lakes. Tell them to look up those master-planned communities. All of them, besides Cinco Ranch, are close to Sugar Land.

Stay Near Grand Parkway
Long Meadow farms is not Katy ISD. Southern most parts of Cinco Ranch are no further from Sugar Land than Grand Lakes or Seven Meadows. We moved here from Sugar Land and being close to Sugar Land was extremely important to us too. Any neighborhood close to the Grand Parkway will give you easy access to Sugar Land.

I know it isn't Katy I.S.D., but it is close to Katy. The Grand Parkway will soon be a direct freeway between Katy and Sugar Land (then ultimately, the third loop around Houston).

JJP, My husband and I currently live in Seven Meadows and what you are looking for fits this location. This a family friendly area. We have a lot of kids and within the next couple of years an elemetary school is going to be built in the center of the subdivision. Lots of parks and trees. If you get a chance to drive thru you won't be disappointed. Happy hunting....

Thanks, I'll let them know to check Seven Meadows.
Long Meadow Farms looks like an ideal location, but I think it's Lamar ISD and I have no idea how good that is or if they'll go for that.

Sugar Land for small young family?
We've been considering the Houston area for some time, and really like what we've been reading about Sugar Land. We have one elementary-school-aged child, and would rather start off in a townhouse than buy straight away. We don't like city living. Are we out of our minds to aim for Sugar Land? Any advice?

Foster is a good high school. They wouldn't be disappointed.

There is an area in Sugar Land called Grant's Lake that has lots of townhomes, great area near all the shopping and restaurants, you should check it out.
