Lighting buildings in Houston seems to be an after thought or not at all.

Those white Christmas lights are a nice touch during the holidays, but when buildings like Chase leave them on the rest of the year it makes the skyline look tacky.

A high-speed rail on Old Galveston Rd up to 59, then another along 59 to Uptown would be nice. What does the brochure say about when that is supposed to happen? 2012? There always seems to be talk about plans but not much else.

I third the NO thugs/hoes comment.

Default City O' City

I moved from Denver where they really do it up for Christmas. This is a picture of the City Building right in the heart of downtown. There is also an annual Parade of Lights (ironic that people want to watch a parade in sub-zero temps). It brings the city together with the spirit of the holidays.

1. The remainder of US Highway 90 (S Main at 610) converted into an expressway all the way into downtown.

2. Rail system serving the entire metro area: It would be called HGRT (Houston/Galveston Rapid Transit) or something along those lines. It would serve
  • Northwest to Prarie View
  • North to Spring, Tomball, Conroe
  • Northeast to Humble, Crosby, Liberty
  • East to Baytown, Anahuac
  • Southeast to Galveston
  • Southwest to Sugarland, Rosenberg
  • West to Katy
3. TX-99 completed

4. The northeast portion of the beltway converted to toll (at least get rid of the lights)

5. No lights on TX-249 all the way to Magnolia

6. More entertainment spots lining Galveston Bay

7. Buffalo Bayou converted to a riverwalk similar to New Orleans and San Antonio, complete with clubs, restaurants, bars, etc.

8. More entertainment spots downtown

9. High-Speed rail from Houston - Dallas; Houston - San Antonio, and Houston - Golden Triangle area

10. Casinos in Galveston

11. The Astrodome converted to a mega shopping/hotel/entertainment complex, which would be the centerpiece of Reliant Park Plaza

12. Our theme park back

13. MORE annexation, at least have the city limits extend past the beltway, 1960 and highway 6.

A Baytown to Port Arthur line would be nice, but it would have to run at least 100 mph (and nonstop) in order for me to take it. Traffic is already running nearly this fast every morning out there.

Since we never seem to get the rail we need and deserve I would settle for more parkways. I would make a parkway (like Allen...no lights and on off ramps) on parts of Westheimer, Sheperd from the loop to 59 or at least Allen Parkway, old Hempstead Hwy ....1960 needs it and Old galveston Rd too. I think it would make city driving so much easier.

This thread should also be titled 'a.k.a. your pipe dream.'
