Default Moving to Houston from a nearby town.

This is my first time to this forum and judging from reading other posts, I am condfident that y'all will be able to help me with my decision.

I will be moving into Houston in January of 2008. I am fairly knowledgable with the Houston area. In fact, I was just at the Alley Theatre last night. Right now I live about 1 1/2 hours from Houston and I currently go to UH. I know that visiting Houston, even on a weekly basis, gives me little insight on actually being a resident of Houston.

My fiance & I are trying to narrow down a search area for apartments. We will be newlywed who are recent college graduates so his income will most likely be around 40K while I am doing an unpaid internship. We have pondered the Heights, Montrose, Museum or Theatre Districts, & Galleria areas. Coming from a very small town far away from anything, we would really love to live in an area where we could just walk to a cafe or coffee shop. We love eclectic Montrose, but aren't sure about living there. Any advice?

You might want to check out near Meyerland Plaza. They have a lot of shopping and restaurants in the same area.
