Default Balancing family life w/Houston commute...

Hello - my husband may be getting a job with Transocean's corporate office, which looks to me like it is on the northern/western side of downtown Houston. We have 3 1/2 and 2 year old sons - are looking for a very family friendly, safe community. So much of what you read tells you that Sugarland is the place to be - but the more I dig, the more I hear about Katy (homes, schools, etc.) I am concerned about my husband's commute to work each morning - as I'm learning what a nightmare Houston's rush hour can be. We want a new home - much like what I've seen advertised in the planned communities. I've lived in the northeast all my life - so any guidance to surburban Houston living you can give is greatly appreciated!

I did a map search and it said that Transocean is in the Greenway Plaza. That is on 59, a little southwest of downtown. Sugarland is also off 59, so it would be a straight freeway shot to work everyday. Unless I have the location wrong, you would want to go with Sugarland over Katy.

There are lots of great areas of Houston and its suburbs, and you are right on the mark in looking for somewhere with a reasonable commute... otherwise you'll be wasting so much time in traffic.

I'm not sure exactly where that building is though... if Premont is right, you'd be better off in Sugar Land than Katy.
