Obviously this is a highly charged, emotional topic. Whether you believe this was a cut-and-dried case of racial profiling or a hotheaded kid mouthing off in the wrong place at the wrong time, I think we can all agree this was a sad, unfortunate incident. So let's keep it civil, folks. You should be able to get your point of view across without resorting to name-calling and insults. Attack the idea, not the person. If there's a problem with a post, report it rather than respond to it. Otherwise you run the risk of receiving an infraction and having your post removed. Thread re-opened.

I don't understand this. Even if he looks 1/2 Asian and 1/2 black to some people, how is that not racial? Either way you admit he looks at least partly black and all non-white.

Your assumption* (mod edit) of his race clearly influenced your contention that this wasn't a racially-motivated incident.
I mean, if he doesn't look black, how can it be a racist incident?
Riiiight.
And even if he was any of the other ethnicities listed above, what freakin' difference does it make? This young fella suffered an egregious violation of his civil rights and will have to live with it for the rest of his blessed life.
Not to mention his family too, who will NEVER be able to psychologically purge the scene of their beloved son being shot nearly to death by some racist dirtbag pig scum who suffered nothing more than a bruised ego that night.

Okay, let me ask you--if he was caucasian, but really, really tan, and the cop was hispanic, would it be a racial incident? Why wouldn't it be?
Come on. Where is the logic?
I'm just saying from my perspective, I don't know how he could say, "I'm black, that's the reason why I was shot." WTF? How about, the reason why you were shot is because you were warned not to move and you did. I'm not saying shooting him was the right thing to do--in any way--but there's more to this than the media is presenting (as usual). Do you acknowledge there is more to the story, or are you so closed-minded on the subject that you patently refuse to look at all the facts?

maybe what he's saying is that red head cops would have tolerated skinny punk white kid's aggressive behavior more, but would probably be on-guard and ready to use their side arms if dealing with pro-athlete built minorities people

You can expect this type of behavior when you give people with barely a high school education a gun and a badge. People with low education and intellegence are more likely to use violence because of their lack of other skills.
This is one instance that cop won't be able to pull the scripted, academy-taught, "but I just want to help people."

I dont think so. People generally would react differently depending on the size (and overall aggresiveness) of the person out-of-control. that means a smaller cop would have release 3 bullets on this "thug". a girl cop would with her eyes closed lol kidding

And again, the point I tried to make when this story came out months ago is that it doesn't matter whether he moved, stood up or performed a tap dance. HE WAS AN INNOCENT, UNARMED MAN ERRONEOUSLY SUSPECTED OF STEALING A CAR. The cops profiled a young, dark-skinned man and then "incorrectly" ran his license plates. Why did they run his plates? Were they running the license plates of every car on the road... or maybe, JUST MAYBE did they run his plates because he was a young, dark-skinned man?

I agree. They really need to up the education level of police officers to at least a Bachelor's degree. People who have dropped out or barely got their GED should NOT be patrolling the streets. Our lives should not be in such foolish hands.
I pray Rob recovers and is restored completely to health. I also pray his family is rewarded a huge sum of money.
