Hi all,

My wife and I are planning to move to Houston is she gets the registered nurse job she applied for at the St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. I was wondering what are the good areas to buy a place that is near the city center? Also are they affordable houses?

Thanks very much.

Affordable means different things to different people... post what you'd be looking for in a house, and what you want to spend, and I'm sure you'll get some good advice.

Many nurses live in Pearland.

You are going to have a harder time finding a house for around $170,000 near the city center. A townhouse or condo would be better suited for what you said your price is. If you are dead set on a house then Pearland, Sugarland, and Missouri City are located within a reasonable distance from the city center. Otherwise, you might want to look into Westbury, Meyerland, and Braeswood (closer to the city center but high crime in certain areas).

I would really recommend leasing a townhouse or renting an apartment before buying a house just so you can get a feel for Houston.
