I recently moved into a one bed apartment in August. My electric bills seemed high at $170/month for December. I didn't notice until late October. My first bill was estimated in August. My second bill reflected a low rate because of IKE. I do not operate my A/C or heater, it is off. Also, my electric water heater was set lower than normal at 100F. So what was my issue???

Checked for my meter number on my electric bill. Found the meter in the apt complex. Threw the breaker in my apt. The meter assigned to me kept READING!!! However a nearby meter stopped. Reset the breaker in the apt.
Reverse Test. Threw the breaker at the meter I suspected was mine. My lights went out.
Conclusion, my meter is SWITCHED with another apartment. After 2 months, eventually was confirmed, however, still waiting waiting on a meter re-read and credit on future electric bills.

With so many apartments in Houston, I am sure I am not the only person with this problem. I might just be one of the few who noticed it. So is this more common than I think?

This is common since most apartments go up so quick. Some even have ac units connected to the wrong apartment.

That sucks man, my electric bill is usually between $50-60/month and I have a 740 sq ft 1/1. I keep the temp on 72 at night and then like 85 when I'm not in the apt.

Hope that helps.
