I am moving to Houston soon and I would like to know if anyone knows of a hair stylist who presses hair. I am looking for someone who doesn't use tons of hair oil.

Thanks in advance!

I have had three bad experiences at Root of You.

Avoid the middle age woman who works in the 3rd both.

I've always wanted to go to The Root of You but the reviews are so mixed that I get a bad feeling. If you go let us know how it went.

Posh Hair Salon do they specialize in natural hair? If so do they press the hair?
ETA- I looked on the site and didn't see any mention of any of the stylist knowing how to do black natural hair so I have no idea if they know how to deal with natural hair or not. I hope someone would be able to chime in who knows.

Tabatha is GREAT with natural hair. She makes it so silky, you wonder why you ever relaxed in the first place! It's because you didn't have Tabatha in Houston to Silk Press your natural hair. Not only does she get it "relaxer straight and silky" but soon soft and shiny & the straightness LASTS in Houston HEAT & Humidity. Amazing! I pray she never moves back to Detroit or I might have to hop a Southwest flight there once a month!!!

I tried Houston Dominican stylist Lucy on Kuykendal for her Dominican Blowout in Houston. Nice girl but style didn't last nearly as long as Tabatha's silk press on my natural hair, and she was WAY too expensive...about $100 without tip for a trim and blowout on hair 3 inches past the shoulder. And the salon is hardly what you'd call high end or upscale. And did I mention it only stayed straight barely a week? And this was in January when weather wasn't humid. Also tried the Root of You which is also pricey, but at least it's a nice upper end salon, so you expect to pay for that high end Black salon experience. My hair still didn't look as good nor last as long as when Miss Tabatha works her magic. Every other stylist I called in Houston known for doing natural hair charges so much more than Tabatha, with inferior results. Why spend more to get less?

The only drawback is that it takes about a month (or more) to get an appointment with her, but she is so worth the wait. She gets you in and out quickly, uses great product lines and is very professional, yet down to earth. Just don't leave this Houston salon without getting your next natural hair silk press appointment booked!
