Can't Decide where to live in Houston
My wife and I are haveing trouble deciding where to purchase a home in the Houston Area.
She works in the Medical Center and I work in Construction. Our main focus is a reasonable commute time for her. My commute is always changing because my jobsite is constantly changing. I would personally like to be close to a highway so it makes my commute a little easier.
We have been looking around Pearland but I feel like there should be other options for us. I'm not convinced I would like to live in a Master Planned Community full of cookie cutter homes.
Budget is around $250K
I'm hoping you guys can help!

Doesn't have to be too big. I was thinking around 2000-2500sqf. Its just me and her for now...maybe some kids in a couple years.

There are some nice areas off the southwest corner of the loop. Willowbend, Westbury, Parkwest, Post Oak Manor. You might try looking into those.
The areas inside the loop between the above mentioned areas and the med center will mostly be above that price point and anything that does come up for that range would be smaller and in need of a lot of work. You might scan Knollwood Village and Westridge and see if anything comes up, but I wouldn't count on it.
You could go beyond Meyerland on Braeswood and check out Maplewood, Braeburn Valley, and Braesmont and see if something comes up.
I don't live far from the med center heading east, but you have to be okay with transitional neighborhoods. Good areas abutting bad. Over there is Garden Villas, Glenbrook, Meadowcreek Village, Idylwood,& Eastwood although in Idylwood it would be hard to find 2000 sq ft. Most homes are smaller in that particular neighborhood.
You might run HAR for all those neighborhoods and see what appeals to you.

Meyerland, a bit smaller but close to medical center.
5142 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77096
Sugar Creek, close to 90, which is a 30 minute drive to the medical center now. (depends when you leave)
21 Wellington Dr, Sugar Land, TX 77478

Pretty tough to get into Meyerland for 250K; I bet you'd be looking at a serious fixer-upper.

I never knew Meyerland was expensive. I'd love to live their too! But I'd rather rent and be very mobile so I can pack up and move to the best jobs around the nation!

Check out Willow Meadows Willowbend Meyerland Westbuty & Maplewood areas on the south west side close to the loop in this area you can get a 1700 to 2500 sqft 3 or 4 bedroom house only 10 to 15 min for med center. This area is close to everything low crime nice homes just stay away from Westbury South small area that is junky crappy homes & kinda ghetto
