Hi,

We are new to Houston currently living in Sugar-Land area, my wife work
in sugar-land area and I am an IT engineer mostly working from home.

We want to buy a home and trying to find a good central location in case we loose our jobs? Don’t want the commute time to be more then 1 hr
- Reasonable commute time
- Safe neighborhood, good schools
& house around 250k - we are fine with a 2000 sq.ft house if that's what we get for 250k in a good location, safe neighborhood

Thank you for your suggestions/comments

IT/Electronics jobs are scattered all over the place...that means you need a geographically central location, which would be, basically, inside the loop.

Thanks for the comments

Any suggestions on which areas should we focus on in our search - reasonably priced and SAFE neighborhood is a priority, we want to explore places between as you suggested INSIDE LOOP towards SUAGR LAND side on 59 as my wife works in sugar land so her drive shouldn’t be too bad around 30 minutes

Thank you.

Perhaps you should look into the park and ride options available in Houston so the challenge of getting to downtown will be permanently addressed. Sugarland is, I would think, the most popular for techs (especially for asians with families) so networking with them or even carpooling would be something to consider as perks

That's going to be Meyerland or Maplewood again.

Other than that, along 59 it's either multi-million dollar ITL or Gangstaland OTL until Sugarland.

Thank you very much all - it helps getting your perspective on such topics!

We were not sure if there are any high-tech pockets in Houston so wanted to clarify that first.

Sugar-Land is quite good/safe/green as we are currently living here it's just that that the drive to downtown or further can be very tiring if we had to do it for job BUT as you all pointed out there aren't many safe-reasonable housing in-between downtown and sugar land.

We are not in a hurry so will explore the options suggested here

Thanks again for your time as these forums have been extremely helpful !

you mean good schools in between dowtown and sugar land. living in the ghettos is probably safer than driving tired along side hauling trucks
