How is the area around "Discovery Green Park adjacent to the city’s entertainment center at McKinney and La Branch"? Hubby's company will be moving there in late 2011.

How safe for what? To live, to work, walk around? It is downtown and it is a safe area to work in.

My car stereo was stolen in this area. Right beside the sign 'Houston Downtown - Lowest In Crime'

I live in the area, and is a good area....how safe is it? As safe as you want to make it. Couple of friends have had their vehicles broken into, but then again, one left her purse in the passenger seat, and another one has a flashy car. I haven't had any problems, but I keep a low profile.

People get their cars broken into in exurbia as well. Car break-ins shouldn't be used to judge the safety of an area in a Metro this big.

Not to live, just for him to commute to (hopefully by bus) and if he has to go out to lunch (doubtful). They are leasing the Discovery Tower which will be renamed. It "will be the first energy efficient Gold LEED design in downtown Houston." I believe that is a good thing...but it is still a ways off.

This is an extremely safe area. If all he is going to do is work there during the day, extremely safe is an understatement. Downtown is one of the safest areas of Houston during the day. At night it is safe as well, just use common sense like you would anywhere else.

By the time Discovery Tower is there, the new residential highrise should be fully occupied and the grocery store at base level fully operationsl. SAFE!!

It's fine and the Discovery Green is a great park/restaurant/winter faux skating rink (honest!). I work about 5 blocks west and walk right past it to Houston Rockets games at the nearby Toyota Center. I've never been even "begged", let alone mugged. There is a good police patrol presence that certainly helps. I think he'll enjoy working downtown as I do.
