West Loop South Bound 3 mile stretch in the Galleria sucks I try to avoid it at all costs. On My way home I can not avoid it, on a good day it will only add about 8 min to your trip on a bad 50 min to your trip. The Person that designed that section of the west loop shoud be ashamed & be put in jail. It is the most conjested FRWY of any FRWY in the world. That section from 6:30 am to 8:30 pm has traffic just about 7 days a week, Houston needs to do something to solve the traffic problem in this section if not as more people move here it is gonna turn into a parking lot

I-10 at 610 West is one of the 10 most congested interchanges in the US. I think 610 at 59 is also up there...its the 4th largest city in America.

I don't think anything they do will make that area better.

Default Don't blame the engineers...

I've been in Houston long enough to know the history, there have been great proposals to fix it, but the liberal tree hugging environmentalists would have none of it. That is the reason it is like it is, I'm calling a spade a spade.

Not that I don't care for the environment, quite the contrary, but when the suggestion to elevate it, make it a viaduct, came up, it was shot down because of noise. The animals would be scared. Oh, and cost. I guess it could work now with some of my money, eh, stimulus money.

It has been redesigned when the Westpark and 10 were redone. It will always be congested due to 10,290,59 all converging in that one stretch.

The three of the four busiest freeways in Houston (Katy, Northwest, Southwest) all dump into the fourth (West Loop) in a five mile stretch. There isn't enough concrete on the planet to make that anything less than a nightmare.

^But can you optimally design a freeway given its location, current ridership, and future ridership/need for expansion? I keed, I keed!

For reals, though - I have personally noticed an improvement in southbound traffic round the Galleria area - specifically, between 10 and 59. Northbound approaching 59 will always be hell because of last minute lane-changers mysteriously discovering they need to travel southbound on 59 all of a sudden.
