possibly moving to Houston - HELP with areas!!!!
My husband and I are considering moving to Houston from NJ. We want a change and i have family in Houston. We are planning to look in Sugarland(so big dont know where to look), Jersey Village, Memorial and possibly Katy area. We want to be out of the city but not too far incase we end up working downtown. We also want to try to have somewhat of a Jewish community near by. We want to move there and be able to save money (that is one reason we want to leave here) so we dont want to spend $500K on a house - we want to be way below that and dont really want to fix much up. Oh and we want a good school district!
Any suggestions??!!! HELP!!!!!

You'll probably want to forget Memorial if you're on a budget. Here's another thread that might help you with finding Jewish areas in Houston. http://www.city-data.com/forum/houst...near-katy.html

Houston is not a city where people of different religions, color, sex live in certain areas. I do not know why so many threads ask where do the Indian,Muslim,Jesish,Hindu people live. In Houston we all live together.

Memorial isn't happening on your budget.
Katy and Sugarland are your best bet. However, they aren't "close."

That's about as far from "close" as you can get. But yeah, things are getting cheap up that way.

How much way below that? Meyerland should be an option if you are looking for Jewish community. I found a few houses there for under 300K on HAR.

The Western edge of Memorial- between Kirkwood and Gessner could fall in the $500K range. I would definitely take a look.

We have a family that moved here from NJ this past summer. I've seen a handful of the yellow plates around here. I live in Sienna Plantation. If you're in Sugar Land, drive down about 20 mintues and you'll hit Sienna Plantation.

We lived in Zip 77041 in one of the gated communities there.
There were three main ones- Lakes on Eldridge, Lakes on Eldridge North (the newest) and Twin Lakes (the oldest).
Housing can be found there in the $300+ range, but check out HAR, possibly your most useful tool for housing.
My wife commuted to downtown and there are two Park and Rides not too far away.
Also nearby is Bear Creek Park- great for families.
Schooling is under the Cy Fair area- can't comment because we used the British school.
Also can't comment on the Jewish aspect as I'm Catholic.
