I love the little cabins at the Gruene (pronounced Green for those non-Texans) Mansion Inn. They have front porch swings and Hill Country decor. You can walk on over to the Greune Hall and two step or have dinner over looking the Guadalupe at the restaraunt next door.

Check out The Luther Hotel, a WWII (or earlier?) old fashioned hotel right on Tres Palocios Bay, in Palacios, TX just an hour and a half southwest of Houston. Ask for the penthouse suite. It's a little old and shopworn but a beautiful view, quaint town, and great owners/operators. Used to be a big-band hangout of top bands in WWII.
