Where should we live?
I know - big, general question! But, I've practically lived on har.com searching homes, communities, and subdivisions and my head is spinning.
My husband is transferring with Celanese from the panhandle of Texas to the Clearlake plant. We would like to keep his commute to no more than 45 minutes or so.
I have family in Spring, but that is too much of a commute. We liked the looks of Pearland, but haven't read too many favorable comments on this site. So where else do you all suggest? We're looking to spend around $150,000. We're willing to go north, west, whatever. Pearland, Friendswood, Highlands, League City . . . Please help!!

League City will provide you with the newest house for the money and the commute to Clear Lake is easy. That's where many of my husband's colleagues live and it only takes them 15-20 minutes to commute to their employer in Clear Lake.

IIRC Celanese is off Bayport road in Pasadena, correct? North of Bay Area Blvd? I drive through there every day.
Well if so, Middlebrook is on the eastern edge of Clear Lake, and about 10 minutes from that plant. $150k will get you something decent in there, however that is a bit of an old neighborhood. 30 years old.
During peak times, I would imagine League City is more like 25-30 minutes from that plant. It is also farther away from Spring, and you would have to deal with the traffic between League City and Clear Lake Blvd on I-45 on the weekends.

Unless there is an accident - 1-45 Spring to Galveston is not too bad. We used to drive that often.

Before noon on weekends it should be a snap. But there are hangups into the afternoon due to the construction between League City and Clear Lake, and the massive shopping area that surrounds the construction. And then there are more hangups near 610 (the goofy left exit). Then it's hit or miss all the way up to Spring.
I suppose it's not that bad per Houston standards. It's definitely no 290!

Have you thought about renting at first? There are plenty of apartments that will do 3 and 6 month leases. When we moved here from Connecticut, we rented for a year (did two 6-month leases) which gave us plenty of time to get to know the area and go out and see just about every neighborhood (in our price range) in the greater clear lake area.

That price range, I'd go with Deer Park.
