Downtown Houston?
How is it?
Boring, very lively?
Any information on how the vibe and overall feel of the Downtown area is would be great!

It is a 9-5 downtown. The North end has some bars/restaurants but the better ones are in Midtown (which is on the outskirts of the south side of downtown. MIdtown is a very happening place (and much livlier than downtown, in Houston right now. The Houston Pavilions, downtown, is trying to revive downtown once again with restaurants/clubs but right now only a couple of restaurants are open in it, House of Blues and McCormick & Schmicks. Yao's and Guadalajara are slated to open there as well as an upscale bowling alley - Lucky Strike. That is in the central part of downtown. There are couple of good sportsbars (don't remember the names) on the North end of downtown.

Downtown is pretty dead, but that is the hallmark of a decentralized city. When I was working downtown I found it hard to even get a sandwich after about 3pm. I do think if businesses extended their hours people would come, but I don't think they're willing to take that risk yet. You will find much more activity around the Galleria, Montrose, Midtown and Rice Village areas.

Downtown is fun during the day, but as far as night life goes, downtown is dead beyond dead;
midtown is much livelier than downtown; however that is just a relative fact

For once, we agree. It's tough to even get a cab in downtown if not on a busy street. I live in Montrose and can just walk outside and get a cab, kinda sad for downtown.

Downtown was full of happening clubs & bars along Main Street just a few years ago (2003-2005)
The residents living there complained though so the city decided to slap heavy fines on every place they could find in violation with city ordinances (fire codes, liquer licences, noise pollution, etc.) from what I heard.
