like spiderman endagering subway patrons??? well you should pay more attention to commercial ads then. most dreamy chance encounters, signs of great city life, dating and modern times are played out with public transportation.
and to tell you the truth I used to think negatively about public transportation when I was NYC, I was set to own a 'cool upscale' car as part of my daily attire to project a more successful person but I learned all that dont mean anything in that city

Same way in DC. They view it as a positive because traffic terrible here. This is an area that has wide massive freeways too.

I would like for Houston to continue developing mass transit here. I almost always drive where I'm going, and hardly ever walk. But, perhaps if we had better mass transit, I'd at least have more options to move around in a different manner. These days, I use mass transit when I go to the Rodeo, although I drive to a Park-n-Ride to do so. I certainly use the METRORail if I'm heading to UH Downtown from Reliant Center or places in between, although they're now charging to park your car at the METRORail parking lot on South Fannin. Still, it's reasonable if you're staying downtown for a while.

Still, Houston's mass transit is far from perfect. Many of the stations are too far away from where people are trying to go. In our weather, not very many folks relish the thought of a long trek to or from a bus or rail stop. Our mass transit is not where it needs to be, but I have hopes that some day it will at least be closer than it is now.

High-end cars are like taxis in NYC and it seems its very hard to impress there because there are way too many very rich people residing in the city.

The last time I looked we were all Americans. I am a native Texan who has lived most of my 63 years S/E Texas and Houston and now live in Fort Worth. Yes, the cost of living is half of what NYC, LA, San Francisco and many other large metroploitan areas are and it is quite easy to make a substantial income in the cities of Texas but are we going to have a falling out with our brothers and sisters because of this? I for one am not. I don't want them to think I am rude and boastful.

This car culture is toxic to not only the environment but also to the population. It's quite amusing how Discovery Houston and the city of Houston in general is making an initiative to become more "green" yet they allow for city centre's and shopping mall's to spring up.

And to say that being more efficient with space is trying to become "European" just proves the denial and ignorance that one is in. Houston is flat, repetitive and boring. But it's cheap so people that have no choice move out here. And cities like Chicago, NYC, San Fran. are crowning jewels of this country and just as American as any other cities.

Yeah we have heard it before. I'm sure it's written all over your walls, and can only be seen with infrared light. If you don't like living here then move. It's as simple as that. And don't give me that, it's not that easy speech. People like you have said in every post, the cost of living there is worth it even if you aren't rich. What I'm trying to get at here is to tell you to move. Also, you guys that post this all the time should know that you are ignored quite often.

Who said I wanted to move? I would rather make a killing being an engineer in Houston, put the money in the right places and THEN move out.

And I am definately not saying that you should live in NYC in a small closet apartment... but for people to bash NYC because its just soo expensive is pointless. NYC has a huge price tag for a reason because the demand is still there. Even though people are moving out to these southern cities en masse.
