You typically don't have much of a choice around here. DSL might be marketed through different companies, but it is all AT&T (at least in the metro area). Cable is all Comcast (again, in the metro areas). Like electricity, "choice" is just a word in a marketing brochure.

I prefer AT&T cable over Comcast if AT&T has service in your location. I still hold onto AT&T land lines but have Sprint for a cell phone provider. Spring is a costly solution, but I literally hated AT&T cell phone service.

We have Vonage for phone($24.99) and AT&T for internet($24.99).

Vonage includes unlimited local and unlimited calls. My rate plan with AT&T includes wi-fi at Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, most U.S. Airports, McDonalds and other locations. If you must have a traditional land line AT&T has a $4.00 basic local only line. Unlimited local and long distance with AT&T alone cost over $50.

We have been much, much happier with Windstream than we were with Comcast.

I am with AT&T DSL for internet. $17.50 for DSL Elite (the fastest one they offer) and no contract. IMHO, AT&T service has improved a lot compared to the previous SBC.
